Having counselling skills is a MUST if you are to establish your workplace as a supportive space that promotes positive mental health.

Why you need this course

According to a recent survey by IOSH UK, two-thirds of line managers expressed that they have not received adequate training in identifying the mental health difficulties their staff and colleagues experience. They expressed feeling unskilled in supporting their team members' mental health.

In the same study, employees disclosed their hesitancy in discussing their own mental health with their managers for fear of the impact it can have on their roles.

This hesitance is mostly due to the stigma attached to poor mental health and ill-preparedness of how to approach the subject.

This training is aimed at equipping managers with the skills to embark on supportive conversations in the workplace, that provide employees with the space to talk about the issues that affect their mental health and their productivity.

People in work spend about one-third of their lives at their place of employment. The role of a manager presents valuable opportunities to encourage conversations that enable staff to unburden themselves of issues that affect their lives at work.

This course will provide a new language for dealing with difficult situations and supporting colleagues.

The skills gained will help managers design a new framework for their career as managers and leaders which put the organization's well-being at a priority.

As managers become competent in using these counselling skills, their staff will become more comfortable in conversing with and confiding in them, giving the opportunities to resolve issues that arise safely and supportively. This will help create positive relationships and enhance existing ones.

These new skills will make your organization more attractive to prospective recruits and help you retain more staff. Your current employees will begin to feel heard and valued.

The learning will enable managers enhance the mental health of your employees and improve their work-life balance, and your organization's productivity.

Add these skills to managers’ core skill set, not just for resolving problems but for everyday workplace communications such as general conversations, person-to-person meetings, team meetings, interviews and other encounters.

The course is for new managers to gain the skills needed to have helping conversations and for existing managers to improve their communication and offer a more supportive space to their team.

This course uses a combination of bite-size and detailed lectures, as well as practical examples, case studies and quizzes to facilitate learning.
